Tax Preparation

When we prepare your taxes, we’re not just filling out one form. Your return is made up of a main form (Form 1040) plus additional schedules that tell the full story of your income, deductions, and credits. 

You don’t need to memorize these—we’ll guide you. This is just to help you understand what we may ask for and why. 

If you shop around you’ll find our service fees very reasonable.  We are happy to provide a more individualized estimate for our service fee.  For general reference please see our starting service fees below for various tax situations.   

The Most Common Schedules (Simplified) 

Income Beyond a W-2 (Schedule 1) 

If you have income from a side business, rentals, unemployment, or other sources, it gets reported here. 

👉What we may ask for: 
1099s, business income, rental details, or other income records 

Business Income (Schedule C) Starting at $400 

If you’re self-employed, freelance, or run a small business, this is where your income and expenses are reported. 

👉 What we may ask for: 
Income totals, expense categories, mileage, receipts  

Investments (Schedule B & D) Starting at $250 

If you earn interest, dividends, or sell stocks/crypto, these schedules apply. 

👉 What we may ask for: 
1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, crypto reports 

Rental or Partnership Income (Schedule E) Starting at $400 

If you own rental property or receive income from an S-corp or partnership (K-1), it’s reported here. 

👉 What we may ask for: 
Rental income/expenses, K-1 forms 

Itemized Deductions (Schedule A) Starting at $250 

If your deductible expenses are higher than the standard deduction, we may itemize. 

👉 What we may ask for: 
Mortgage interest, property taxes, charitable donations, medical expenses

Farm Income and Expenses (Schedule F) Starting at $500 

If you are a self-employed farmer that earns money selling crops and livestock, or receives payments through a farming cooperative or agricultural program.  

👉 What we may ask for: 
Farm income/expenses, any 1099s 

Credits & Extra Savings (Schedule 3) Starting at $300 

This is where we apply credits that can reduce your tax bill. 

👉 What we may ask for: 
Education expenses, energy-efficient home upgrades, other qualifying costs

  • Respond to questions as they come up 
  • Don’t worry if you’re unsure—just send what you have
